Information
It is the revolutionary flag of Psara island, Aegean Sea, during the first year of the Greek Revolution 1821. The motto "Freedom or Death" together with the symbols of the Society of Friendship attest to its dynamic presence in the naval centres of the Aegean Sea. In the centre, the cross - symbol of the faith of the Greeks and the sanctity of the struggle - is placed, to its right the anchor - symbol of the firm decision for freedom - with the snake wrapped around it. Above the snake, an eagle bites the snake's tongue with its beak. The snake is the enemy of the eagles because only he reaches his nest and eats his eggs, i.e. he destroys his generation (the Genus). On the other side, there is a spear and under the cross, a crescent inverted - a symbol of the Turkish yoke.
The banners (flags) of the Revolution of 1821 gave courage to the fighters in every battle and at the same time were points of recognition among the revolutionary Greeks from the various regions.
