The sextant is an angiometric and/or astronomical instrument used in navigation by seafarers to measure the heights of celestial bodies as well as vertical or horizontal angles of terrestrial or terrestrial fixed objects. Specifically, it is used to measure the angle (height) of an intended celestial body (eg Sun, Moon, Stars), from the horizon.
